Who are Bridges Mentors?
Bridges Mentors are caring volunteers from the communities we serve
who can commit to meeting with a youth on an ongoing basis.
Qualities of Bridges Mentors:
-
A desire to be involved in a young person’s life
-Respect for young people
-An ability to empathize
-Be flexible and open
-An ability to listen
How to become a Bridges Mentor:
-Call the Bridges office (732-3566)
-Attend training sessions, parts one & two
-Receive satisfactory background
& personal reference checks
-Submit a home visit by program staff
How do kids get referred to Bridges?
Teachers, counselors or parents can refer a child (ages 5-17) to
the mentoring program. Parents need to complete family and youth needs assessments, an authorization to participate, emergency information and a signed “parent/guardian guidelines” agreement. The program staff will go over the guidelines with the family.
